Lech Walesa calls for realese of the political prisoners

This week the information about the death of Cuban prisoner of conscience, Orlando Zapata Tamayo, went around the world.

This tragedy is yet another evidence that the Castro’s regime ignores appeals of the international community for protection of human rights, tacitly getting rid of those who demand freedom and democracy.

Today the tragic death of Orlando becomes symbolic and desperate call for help and effective action of politicians and decision-makers, who while building relations with the Cuban authorities, do not want to talk to dissidents and pass over in silence the voice of the civil society in Cuba.

Therefore I call to the laureates of Nobel Peace Prize and the heads of state to take an immediate action to call on the Castro regime and demand the release of those who are sentenced to years of imprisonment for having different opinion than the government.
